8 Weeks Before Moving Day

- Start decluttering — sell, donate, or dispose of items you won't take
- Start collecting boxes and packing materials
- Notify your landlord (if renting) of your intended vacate date
- Research schools, childcare, and services in your new suburb if needed
4 Weeks Before Moving Day
- Start packing non-essential items (out-of-season clothing, books, art)
- Redirect your mail at Australia Post (allow 3–4 weeks processing)
- Notify your bank, super fund, and government agencies of your new address
- Transfer or disconnect utilities (electricity, gas, internet, water)
- Confirm your settlement date and moving date align
- Arrange insurance for your new home before moving day
1 Week Before Moving Day
- Confirm your booking with the removalist
- Pack almost everything — keep out only daily essentials

- Photograph the condition of your current home (important for bonds)
- Create a moving day essentials box (documents, chargers, snacks, first night items)
- Confirm new property keys will be available on moving day
Moving Day
- Do a final walkthrough of your old home before leaving
- Ensure all power points, taps, and lights are off
- Check all cupboards, wardrobes, and under-bed spaces
- Hand keys to agent or new owner as required
- Supervise removalist loading and confirm inventory
- Be at the new property to direct unloading
After Moving In
- Test all appliances, taps, toilets, and light switches at the new property
- Check smoke alarms are operational
- Locate the main switchboard and water shutoff valve
- Register for recycling and waste collection with your new council
- Update your address on your driver's licence (required within 5 days in WA)
- Update electoral roll address
